I have had the pleasure of taking on a job that requires me to do a little traveling. Tuesday through Friday I make my way through the pan handle of Florida. Places such as Jay, Milton, Panama City, and even Blountstown, Florida. I get to see the country side as I make my way through. I have noticed a little stand on the beaten path leaving Jay headed to Milton, FL that holds some of the most beautiful blueberry trees. This little farm is located in a small community called Allentown. From Jay, FL to Milton you see nothing but peanut fields every where. Except this one little farm that is surrounded by peanut fields sets a eight acre blueberry patch owned by a man by the name of H.V. Lundy.

For many years now H.V. Lundy of Florida has raised blueberries on his farm. Hand picking them for the public to buy at his small stand in a community called Allentown, FL. I have had the pleasure of recently stopping by and talking with this fellow. I looked around and admired the view as I stood there checking on the prices of fresh blueberries. After talking to him and before I head back to my truck he says to me take a box of fresh blueberries for yourself for the road. As I head down the road I get to the eating part of these wonderful sweet tasting berries.

By far these are some of the best blueberries I have ever eaten. I have two blueberry bushes in my own yard and mine at home are nowhere as good as these. I guess it is the Florida soil that makes them grow so much better there. I little black dirt and seems like a ton of sand. Not sure of it just yet! Maybe one day I can have my bushes make them as sweet as these are. I see now that I have come up with more to put into a categorize area here on Hello Hunting and also more for the tags. As I have worked on the site now for over three years it has grown.

As we use our slogan easily by saying (We change the way you look at the outdoors.) it is our goal to bring you news of what there is to do and to see in the great outdoors. It dosent all have to be in the woods or on the water but just off or on the beaten path as you head down the road. We ask all our readers that if there is any new places that you would like to tell us about we will be glad to write about it so others can find out also. So if you ever get the chance to take a trip to Florida make sure to take a detour through Allentown, Florida and visit Mr. Lundy and his blueberry patch. The Lundy Blueberry farm is open Monday through Saturday from 7am to 7pm central time. Closed on Sunday and the Fourth of July during the summer months. Prices are different if you pick your own blueberries compared to Mr. Lundy picking them for you. You can call ahead of time if you like, for more information on the blueberry patch at (850-623-0652).

There is a difference in poaching and the animals that are at the top of the food chain. There is so much poaching in the outdoor industry today and it seems that the law can only do so much. But when a coyote, wolf, and bobcat catch adult or even fawn deer then its a different story. We can only control the top part of the food chain so much. But we can control as humans poaching even more. Learn how you can tell the difference between poaching and top of the food chain.

Let us start off with poaching. We as humans control this at 100%. Some of you say we have no control over it but only the law does. If you are human then that makes you the poacher. This is the fact of if you are hunting or fishing on property that you know you dont have permission to be on then this makes you the poacher. Rather you want to believe it or not it is the truth. The law can only do so much. We fuss to others and say the law dosent do enough but they cant be in two places at once.

Poaching is wrong and we all know it. So why do it? Why do some people do the wrong thing and know that they are doing the wrong thing in the beginning. It is usually someone that cant stand the fact that they just cant hunt in an ethical manner. If you are a trophy hunter and you harvest a 175 inch buck that makes the record books and on all top of this there is another buck on your property that will score 190 inches his tail is in some deep trouble. What I mean by this is that if you know of the bigger buck then the odds are someone else knows of him as well. Your odds may be one and a million at harvesting this monster but an unethical hunters odds are better if he knows where the buck is hanging out at night.

Night time is not the only time that a buck gets shot at in an unethical manner. It also takes place on an abandon road side in the day light. Usually these old abandon home sites or road ways are where big bucks hang out, due to the fact no hunter hunts here. Or even the property only gets hunted once or twice a year. It could be a piece of property that a grandfather has put his hard work and money into fixing up for his beloved grand kids. Then he becomes the victim when some crazy idiot decides he is going to hunt this property without permission.

Remember that we as hunters are the ones that are the poachers. We have full 100% control to make the right decision on the ethically way to take a harvested animal that we may be after. We set examples to our children and they watch every move we make. When I was a 4H agent in the Crenshaw County, Alabama schools system under Auburn University I had the chance to teach and talk to kids about wildlife. We talked about how grown adults can be unethical at hunting or fishing and the animals that are at the top of the food chain. You would be very surprised at how many 4th through 6th graders I taught would say my daddy or my older brother shoots deer side the road or even at night. It happens and we as hunters control it.

Now for a bit of change in the way an animal gets harvested. Let us talk a bit about being at the top of the food chain. This in no way that it is unethical for another animal to chase down and kill its food. It is a way of life for these animals and it is their way of survival. Without them doing so they would not survive at any means. A bear heads down to the water to catch fish to have a meal. This puts them in at the top of the food chain and also puts them as an ethical hunter. Even though they cant read a sign that says no trespassing they are still the means of an ethical hunter.

This is their way of life and this is also our way of life. We can harvest animals such as bear, coyote, and bobcats during the right season. But we should still do it in an ethical manner. We can control most animals on our land. Rather it be the means of harvesting or trapping. So remember that the next time you are out on the road at night or even in the day light make the right decision before you pull the trigger. This article come to mind when I read a little passage on Facebook about a hunter watching this doe in the picture above. This doe was killed either by another hunter or a animal just looking for food just three weeks after this past years season ended. This hunter has watched this doe and gotten pictures of her and even a buck that had breed her. I hope he gets a chance at the buck in this next season to come. Maybe we can bring you the story of the buck the did the breeding to this doe.

After doing some research, as we do here at Hello Hunting I may have found something that I just may have to get my hands on. For some of us we may not have the pleasure of planting food plots with big tractors and heavy farm equipment. Sometimes even the bigger is not always the best. You may have just a small area that you want to get some tilling done and cant get anything bigger than a ATV in. Well if an ATV is all you have, now there is no problem for you to fix up the small out of the way food plot.

As I have already said we do a little or a lot of research on a product before we take aim to tell about it. And planting food plots is something we all here at Hello Hunting know about. So after doing some research on the (DR. Roto-Hog Roto Tiller) by DR.Power Equipment. Not only will this piece of equipment do all the food plot work with an ATV it may be the best investment you could make when planting a garden. Till twice the area in the matters of minutes without breaking a sweat.

So many people now are using ATV and pull behind equipment to prepare a good seed bed for food plots. They are simple and easy with just a little time. This meaning just a little gas and not the huge cost of diesel fuel and wear and tear on very expensive farm equipment. The only way we here at Hello Hunting can allow you to know a lot more about this wonderful product is let you see the video on it. I hope you enjoy and think about your next buying item that is on your list of outdoor products to purchase.

Every year here at Hello Hunting we honor the women in the great outdoors. Now days women have done so much more than they have in the past. The past two years have been great with Nancy Joe Adams, of Montgomery, AL and Keli Van Cleave, of Colorado winning the honors. No other woman ranks highly than a mother. With Mothers day coming up soon we want to make this years Hello Hunting's Woman of the year a special woman in 2012. She is a southern girl at heart and a huge heart is what she has.

This years woman of the year is a mother in more ways than none. She is a wife who loves her husband and enjoys spending time with him and her kids at their local deer camp. She has become a good friend of mine and I can say no more when I am so happy that I have had the pleasure of meeting, talking, and getting to know this beloved lady from south Alabama.

Shannon Lee is not just you ordinary outdoors woman. Raising kids and keeping up with her beloved husband Travis Lee, she also keeps up with goats on their farm. Another good thing about Shannon is that she not only keeps up with her own kids but everyone else kids too in school. See she is a wonderful school teacher and enjoys her students. Maybe this years woman of the year for 2012 is none other than a teacher of the year for all of us here at Hello Hunting.

Shannon, It has been a real honor to get to know you and Travis!

Shannon is from Wing, AL and enjoys bass fishing with her husband and also enjoys time with her kids doing outdoor activities such as squirrel, deer, and turkey hunting. She is one of our writers and pro staff members here at Hello Hunting also. Rite before I started writing this article I sent her a message of Facebook letting her know that I had her a very big surprise. So Shannon, here is your surprise and I want to wish you a very happy Mothers day to come.

A mother like Shannon is a one in a million in my book. I hope that she will hang around for a long time on the pro staff here and keep us heading in the rite direction with my grammar on all my writing. She is truly a great friend and a great impression on the outdoors. I just wish we had more women like her to look up to. Congratulations on being named 2012 woman of the year here at Hello Hunting and keep up all your hard work and the rewards will be even greater!

I have yet had the chance to shoot this bow at this time but from the looks of it may have to drop my old bow and get me one of these.

Stealth II:

The Alabama Bass Trail is a cooperative effort between Governor Robert Bentley’s office, the Alabama Tourism Department, the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and the Alabama Mountain Lakes Tourist Association.

Bass fishing has grown to all time high in Alabama. There is now an Alabama fishing hole for anyone who wants to take up the challenge of trying to catch this states next state record. The state record for a largemouth bass is 16 lbs 8 oz and has been since 1987. Is there another bass out there in Alabama waters that could break this streak. Large-mouth bass are among some of the most fished for fish in Alabama waters. Catfish and crappie are most likely next on this list of fish to chase after. There is now a trail for people who wish to fish in Alabama waters. As a matter of fact there are 11 waters on this trail that hold big fish. Here are the 11 places to catch big bass on the Alabama Bass Trail.

Mobile-Tensaw River Delta: located just north of the Mobile Bay. It covers 20,323 acres of water, plenty of water to catch big bass.

Lake Eufaula: located near the Alabama and Georgia state line in Eufaula, AL and covers 45,181 acres of water. Lodging here is among the best in Alabama.

Alabama River: 318 miles long this river starts just north of Montgomery, AL and flows into the Tombigbee River. With dams splitting this river up such as the Robert F. Henry in Lowndes county, Millers Ferry in Wilcox county, and Claiborne dam. Fishing here can be a big challenge in more ways than one.

Lay Lake: located just 35 minutes south of Birmingham off I-65 and 15 minutes south of Columbiana, AL. Covering 12,000 acres it holds a large number of largemouth and spotted bass. There are places on this lake where the water is very clear with a rock bottom.

Lake Jordan: located 25 miles north of Montgomery,AL holds large-mouth bass and also some great crappie during its season. It covers 6,800 acres and was created by Alabama Power Company.

Logan Martin Lake: covers 15,263 acres and has great largemouth and spotted bass fish. Largemouth bass are normally in the 12 to 18 inch range here.

Neely Henry Lake: near the towns of Gadsden and Ohatchee. Just off I-59, this water way covers 11,235 acres.

Lewis Smith Lake this 21,000 acre lake is home to some of the best striped bass fishing in Alabama and is located in Cullman, Walker, and Winston Counties. The striped bass here can often weigh more than 20 lbs.

Pickwick Lake: I don’t know much about this lake as far as the fishing for bass heads out. I do know that it covers 47,500 acres and is located on the Tennessee River near Florence,AL.

Wheeler Lake: covers 67,100 acres, Wheeler Lake is the largest of three stair-stepping reservoirs along the Tennessee River. Some great bass fishing here makes you want to come back for more time and time again.

Lake Guntersville: Located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, Alabama’s largest lake contains 69,100 acres and stretches 75 miles.

Most of you extreme duck hunters enjoy this small time sport. Why do we say “extreme”, its simple. Teal season comes to us in the south around the middle of September, and can end usually around the beginning of October. If your from the south you know it is hot as hell during this time of year. Were talking 90′s plus heat, in full camo and the wind you do have is just as hot. Thus the reason for the word “extreme”, cause face it your kinda obsessed, crazy, or just plan nuts.

I love duck hunting, and Teal season is a breath of fresh air for me. Finally here, pumped up like a kid on the night before Christmas. Hell, I can’t even sleep, laying there think of what the next morning will bring. Listen for the whistle of the wings of the first flock to buzz my decoy spreed. Now to me that’s what dreams are made of. I have 25 years of Southeast Louisiana roughest duck hunting under my belt. So listen up,

CUZ DIS CAJUN BOUT TO TELL U HOW WE GONE TO DO DIS LIKE DAT.

DO YOUR HOMEWORK

Go out and scout, see where the ducks are, where they or flying from and also where they might be headed. One thing you want to keep in mind is Teal don’t like to be in the same place to long. Face it they are on there we to Mexico, so try to stay mobile. Ducks fly in this invisible highway, called flyways. Kinda like Cow trails, they get up and fly this patten everyday. So know where you flyways are.

FEED

Find a pond that has natural feed. This will allow you the best place to hunt, simply because the ducks have probably already found this spot. But if you don’t have the natural feed, then feed them but make sure to follow all local game laws in your area or state. Some states may not allow feeding of wildlife. You can use rice, corn, milo, etc. Remember all the feed that is not natural has to be gone before you can hunt that hole.

BLIND & BLIND LOCATION

This one is my favorite, simply because I have always been able to pick the perfect spot as to say. Thanks to my grandpa & father teaching me. Your blind location must be with the sun facing your back and the north wind coming from your back also. The reason for this is because ducks tend to land against the wind. So this keeps all the action in front of your face. Having the sun at your back is so that you can see them, you ever try to shoot a duck with the sun in your eyes! That makes for a very crappy morning. Now that you have your spot, there are many different types of blinds that you can build or even buy.

PIROUGUE BLIND

A pirouette is a flat bottom canoe that us Cajuns get around the marsh in. Well the blind is quite simple. Place your boat or pirouette were you want it and put brush around it. Remember when brushing your blind only use natural brush. Look at what’s around you and use that. If your in a salt water marsh don’t use a willow tree. Ducks ain’t stupid, you might get luck once but your not going to be successful time and time again.

STAND BLIND

This is a platform style blind with a bench or seats. Usually built with a couple of 2×4 boards and some ply wood. This is done so that you can be on a sturdy area while you hunt. Make the blind so that you can fit 2, 3, even 4 people, that is pretty much up to you. Keep in mind the bigger the blind the harder to make it blend in. Once you have your base or platform built and don’t forget to brush it up a bit.

HOUSE BLIND

This is just what it sounds like a house all brushed up. These have seating for alot of hunters and have stoves for cooking and heaters. This type of blind I used for all day hunts.

BOAT BLIND

This one is my favorite. Why, because it keeps you mobile, and you can move according to wind and also move as the sun changes throughout the day. Usually this is when you buy or make a pop up blind that is attached to you boat. Cabelas has them for about few hundred buck. Just put it on your boat brush it with grass matts you can buy at Cabelas, Academy Sports, or Wal-mart, then add a little of the native grass just to break it the outline. This well help your blind blend better and also hold together better.

CALLING

Easy way to learn is to buy a CD. By many means a teal has a nasally quack (this is done by the female) and the male is a whistler. Usually the female is the big mouth and she is usually the one who is going to do all the yelling just like at home. Her quacks normally are going to be 4 quick notes starting off high and going down. Then the male is
peep, peep peep, peep peep, just quick little peeps on a teal whistle. See Haydels game calls for your teal whistle and female teal call.

DECOYS AND DECOY PATTERNS

Face it you can’t get them in close without decoys. Buy some decoys, make sure that they are not to bright and don’t shine when the sun hits them. This will cause ducks to flare up and leave. Green head gear make the best but there are one of they also can be the more pricey of the decoys out there. There is kind of an art to decoy spreads. When piling decoys you may use the V Style set up or you can use the little piles set ups or even the scattered pile style. Each of these will work. You have to make the rite set up work for you. In all the style spreads I listed here don’t forget to leave your shooting lanes!!! Motion decoys also can play a big role in killing the hell out of sum ducks! Good idea of motion decoys come from MOJO Decoys. A great line of all kinds of duck decoys!

If you fallow these simple steps your should to have a great teal season. Thanks for reading and happy hunting! Andre’ Matherne Owner of Nonk Dre’s Custom Calls

When we think of hunting boots we may think warmth, coolness, comfort, insulation, and even water proof. Are they that certain brand that we see so much. Danner, LaCrosse, and even the Red Head brand from Bass Pro Shops. There are so many out there and so many companies to choose from. What fits you best? What is your favorite brand? You decide this season and make the rite choice for you.

There are so many hunting boots out there on the market it can be somewhat confusing. My choice would have to be LaCrosse mainly because they are the number one boot for me. There is no telling how many seasons I have gone through wearing LaCrosse footwear and there is no telling how many more seasons to come I will continue to wear them. I have my Alpha Mudlite Realtree AP hunting boot for when the season turns cold, alone with my Venom Scent HD Realtree APG HD snake boots for early season such as bow hunting. Both of these boots will be in the cost rang of about $140.

Alpha Mudlite Realtree® AP® Hunting Boots

A boot made for comfort

Scent control

Lightweight

7.0 mm neoprene for cold to extreme cold weather

brush tuff puncture resistant upper material for long term durability

100% waterproof

Venom Scent HD™ Realtree® APG HD® Snake Boots

360º Snake Guard Protection

100% Water Proof

Scent-Free protection

abrasion resistant toe cap

comfort

Side – Zip for easy on and off

These are just a few things that make these two sets of boots worth paying the money for. If my feet get cold in the dead winter then I am ready to head back to the house or camp. My feet do not sweat in these boots unlike some of the other hunting boots that I have had in the past. We all want comfort and it is here with LaCrosse. We all want 100% water proof barrier and it is also here. No more leaving the stand early because of the normal issues you may have with other style boots. Sit all day and never think of your feet getting cold or hurting from the long walk in. The days of buying boots for hunting are just about to become the end when you buy from LaCrosse Footwear.

WWE Hall of fame Legend Shawn Michaels has stepped out of the WWE ring and into the wild with MacMillan River Adventures. After recording on my (DVR) and watching the first three episode’s on the Outdoor Channel I have learned it is going to be hard to miss one single show. The very first episode was aired on June 28, 2011 on the Outdoor Channel. Shawn Michaels and Keith Mark takes base camp in the middle of the famous Yukon to go after one of the top four-legged animals in the world known as the Yukon Moose.

The show started off by showing some of the WWE’s ring time with Shawn and moves on to some of the best hunting adventures in the world. As Shawn takes his wrestling gear off and put’s on his camo to head out for the famous Yukon moose. You bet your tail that each Tuesday night either I or my (DVR) will be getting the new inside look as the show continues. Let’s take a look at the teaser and you want be upset that you did. A don’t want to miss show that is going to change the Outdoor Channel from here out.
